Support Center for Foreign Workers

About Us

The POSSE Support Center for Foreign Workers is a non-profit organization, making efforts to eliminate human rights violations against foreign workers, international students, and technical intern trainees working in Japan.

Since the establishment of the center in 2019, we have received more than 600 calls and emails from foreing workers every year and have resolved many cases. Currently, we accept inquiries in multiple languages including English, “Easy Japanese”, Chinese, and Tagalog.
Many major media outlets, both domestic and international, including Asahi and Reuters, have covered cases such as a Filipino worker whose passport was confiscated by her former employer and technical intern trainees who had been sent back by their employer to Cambodia against their will.
Recently, we have started consulting those who overstayed and aiding Kurdish refugees living in Japan.
Our activities are supported by university students and highschool students: interpreting and translating for foreing workers in consultation; making leaflets; updating web pages; planning and holding events; and so on.

We launched an online petition on Change.org to demand legislation against confiscation of passports by employers. Please sign it!                                            ⇒

「現代的奴隷制度」と呼ばれる外国人技能実習制度の廃止に向けたプロジェクトを発足しました!労働相談やアウトリーチ活動から、権利主張の支援まで、現場での支援活動を通じて問題提起に取り組んでいます。

We need your support

Foreign workers in Japan are facing numerous labor issues; some technical intern trainees work for ¥300 hourly wages; an international student worked unpaid because their employer labeled their work as volunteering; and a foreign worker had their passport confiscated by their employer.

Most of foreign workers, however, have no choice but to accept such injustice due to difficulty in understanding Japanese or Japanese law.

POSSE helps those foreign workers facing such injustice by providing free labor consultations.

In order to continue and expand our activities, we need more support.

We are recruiting volunteers!

Based in Tokyo and Sendai, student volunteers at the Support Center for Foreing Workers are committed to tackling increasing human rights violations against foreign workers like unpaid wages, unfair dismissal, confiscation of passports, labor accidents, “karoshi” (death by overwork), forced return of foreign workers, and so on.

We receive phone calls and emails from those foreign workers facing trouble at the workplace and give them advice. For those not comfortable communicating in Japanese, we accept calls and emails in multiple languages including English, Chinese, Tagalog, and Spanish.

Student volunteers are not only giving advice to foreign workers, but also trying to reach out to those foreign workers who cannot even seek help due to extremely difficult conditions.
